Hallelujah! Cloud technologies linked to higher rates of giving in church
September 6, 2013 Written by Jonathan Brandon
Churches that use cloud computing to connect with their followers report having much more engaged constituents1 and benefit from increased donations according to the results of a survey published today. The survey was commissioned by Intacct, a cloud-based financial management and accounting software company, and included responses from over a thousand small to large-sized churches across the globe. Intacct found that large churches – those with more than 1,000 members attending weekly – were much more likely to adopt cloud-based solutions than smaller churches. About 80% of large churches reported using some cloud service, either for financial management or membership management, compared to 50% uptake2 for smaller churches. The survey also found that churches using cloud-based technologies to support online giving reported increases in giving by their congregations3 – 75% – compared with those not using cloud-based technologies – 18%. Nearly half of the large churches surveyed also report using cloud-based mobile apps during worship, another element encouraging this trend. "The results of our survey are encouraging because they show the positive impact that cloud and online technologies have in increasing giving at churches of any size," said Clark Newby, vice president of marketing at Intacct. "Yet we also see that not all cloud technologies are equal. Churches need more comprehensive4, automated reporting to tie programs to results such as membership increases, so they can use funds to the greatest benefit of congregants5," Newby said. |
