Fujitsu brings cloud to animal hospitals

| Fujitsu and Anicom, a Japanese provider of pet insurance, announced a collaboration Wednesday that will see the two companies partner to deliver cloud-based services to support veterinary1 practices and animal hospitals. Anicom already offers animal hostpitals customer management software in addition to animal insurance but with Fujitsu's technical expertise the two companies will be taking the offering to the cloud, adding electronic medical records support and other medical-support and business-support features that the companies claim will be the first cloud-based medical support service for animal hospitals. "In addition to enabling animal hospitals to use statistical information gathered from other hospitals registered for the service via the cloud, the new service will facilitate2 care coordination and the sharing of diagnostic information between these hospitals. It will also enhance work efficiency, all of which is expected to result in greater customer satisfaction," Fujitsu said. Scott Ikeda, head of global press relations3 for Fujitsu told Business Cloud News that its partnership with Anicom will allow the company to more effectively tap into the growing Japanese market, and the company is aiming to corner about 30% of the market in the next 3 years."We believe the sector to be around 1.4 trillion yen ($14.2bn US) in Japan with about 10,000 animal hospitals. Within that, we will be aiming for about 3,000 animal hospitals by the end of 2016," he said. Ikeda said Fujitsu also has plans to look at integrating4 its big data technologies into veterinary-focused services once the company has accumulated more data from Japanese animal hospitals, particularly on the effectiveness of treatments, but that this is something "further down the road5." |
